bookstore habits

Today’s LT Tuesday question: Favourite bookstores – What’s your favourite bookstore? Is it an online store or a bricks-and-mortar store? How often do you go book shopping? Is your favourite bookstore (or bookstores) listed as a favorite in LT? Do you attend events at local bookstores? Do you use LT to find events?

I honestly don’t buy books often enough to really have a favourite bookstore. That said, I don’t have a ton of selection bookstore-wise. The largest bricks and mortar selection is at the chain Chapters/Indigo, and the independent bookstores are generally small outfits. Places like Costco, Walmart, and grocery stores sometimes have bestsellers and current releases I’m interested in for lower prices. I also use Amazon, and I do use the library a lot – I generally like to check something out before investing in my own copy.

I haven’t used Librarything’s event function, but I did attend the last Harry Potter midnight book release, which is the only store event I’ve participated in so far. It was a zoo, of course, but there were great costumes to look at, freebies like posters and stickers and snacks, and the thrill of getting my hands on the book when it was released.

Yeah, I wish I had more bookstores in the town I live in, sure would be nice. Like I need more opportunities to buy books!!!

I would totally attend more events if I could – esp. if they have free snacks.

Most of the books at Wal-Mart are cheaper than Waldenbooks, I know, but I find myself standing in front of their limited selection going, “I got that… I read that… I have no interest in that.” Very rarely do they have something I pick up and buy.

Sadly, I use the library a TON, but I still go book shopping enough to have a favorite bookstore. It’s bad for my shelf situation…=)

  5. I also like to get my books from the library first and then decide if I want to purchase them.

I’ve also find quite a few bestsellers at lower prices while at WalMart, grocery stores or drugstores. Sometimes I will run out for toilet paper or a loaf of bread and return home with a couple paperbacks also :)

The HP release was my last bookstore event, but I’m not sure I can even count that since I was working there at the time :) Like yours, it was a zoo!
